Getting Started with Positron Pro
This feature is in preview. Preview features are unsupported and may face breaking changes in a future release. Any issues found in the feature will be addressed during the regular release schedule; they will not result in immediate patches or hotfixes.
We encourage customers to try these features and we welcome any feedback via Posit Support, but we recommend that the feature not be used in production until it reaches general availability (i.e., officially released as a full feature). To provide feedback, please email your Posit Customer Success representative or sales@posit.co and specify that you are trialing this feature.
Posit Workbench supports launching Positron Pro sessions from the Posit Workbench home page.
Positron is:
- A next-generation data science IDE built by Posit PBC
- An extensible, polyglot tool for writing code and exploring data
- A familiar environment for reproducible authoring and publishing

We encourage you to try out Positron Pro sessions on Workbench and we welcome feedback about your experience using Positron and your experience with Positron Pro sessions on Workbench.
Please send feedback specific to Positron directly to the Positron team through Feedback and Issues. To provide feedback about your Workbench experience with Positron Pro sessions, please reach out via Posit Support or your Posit Customer Success representative.
During this Public Beta period (before general availability), we recommend that Positron not be used in production.
Start a Positron Pro session
To start a new session:
- From the Posit Workbench home page, click + New Session.
- Select Positron Pro.
- If resource limits are configured, select at least 4 GB of memory.
- Click Start Session.
Once the session is ready, Posit Workbench automatically opens the Positron Pro session in your current browser window.
If you do not see Positron Pro as a New Session option, then please reach out to your Workbench system administrator.
