User metrics
Overview
The User Metrics page displays active user statistics for your Posit Connect server. It shows how many users have logged in or accessed content across daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly time windows, broken down by role.
To access the User Metrics page, click People in the top menu bar, then click the User Metrics tab.
Active users
The page displays four summary cards showing total active user counts for each time window:
| Card | Time window |
|---|---|
| Daily Active Users | Last 24 hours |
| Weekly Active Users | Last 7 days |
| Monthly Active Users | Last 30 days |
| Yearly Active Users | Last 365 days |
An active user is any user who has logged in or accessed content while logged in on the server within the specified time window.
Active users by role
Below the summary cards, a table breaks down active user counts by role across the same four time windows. The roles shown are:
- Administrators - users with the Administrator role
- Publishers - users with the Publisher role
- Viewers - users with the Viewer role
This breakdown helps you understand how different user groups are engaging with Connect.
Licensed seat usage
If your Connect license includes a user limit, the page displays a Licensed Seat Usage section at the top. This section shows:
- The number of active users (within the last 365 days) out of your total licensed seats
- A progress bar that indicates your current usage level
The progress bar color changes based on usage:
| Usage level | Color |
|---|---|
| Below 75% | Green |
| 75% to 89% | Yellow |
| 90% or above | Red |
Monitor this section to ensure you have sufficient licensed capacity for your organization’s needs. If usage approaches your license limit, contact your Posit account representative to discuss increasing your seat count.

- Only users with the Administrator role can access this page.
- Connect derives active user counts from user login and content access activity (while logged in).
