Static
You can publish static sites to Posit Connect. Render documents in another environment, then publish the resulting files to Connect. For example, if your Jupyter Notebook requires a system dependency that Connect does not provide, render it in your development environment and publish the result to Connect.
Deploying
Publish static sites to Connect using:
Publishing rendered HTML
Export a conversation or notebook as an HTML file when you want to share it without setting up its source environment on Connect.
Export a Posit Assistant conversation
In Posit Assistant, use the conversation export controls to save the conversation as an HTML file. See the Posit Assistant conversation import and export documentation for details. Save the exported file as index.html.
Export an ad hoc Jupyter notebook
In JupyterLab, follow the JupyterLab export instructions and choose HTML. Save the exported file as index.html.
Other AI agents, including Claude, Codex, and Gemini, can also create HTML files as artifacts. Ask the agent to provide the conversation or result as an HTML file, then save it as index.html. Use the same upload steps below to publish these files to Connect.
Keep any images, stylesheets, or other files that the export creates with the HTML file. Upload the complete output directory when the HTML file references other files. When you upload multiple files, include index.html as the entry point.
Upload the HTML to Connect
Dashboard uploads of static sites are available by default. To publish a new site, you must have permission to publish content, upload bundles, deploy bundles, and delete content. Publishers and administrators can publish new content. To replace an existing site, you must be its owner or a collaborator with permission to edit the content, upload bundles, and deploy bundles.
To publish a new content item:
- On the Content page, click Publish, then click Upload static site, or drop files on the page.
- Select
index.html, or select the complete directory that contains the HTML file and its supporting files. - Click Deploy. Connect activates the uploaded files, so the content is available as soon as the deployment finishes.
To update an existing static content item:
- Open the content item, click the Settings icon, and select Source.
- Drag the HTML file or its containing directory to the upload area, or select the files.
- Click Deploy content. Connect activates the new version, so it replaces the previous one as soon as the deployment finishes.
The Source upload controls are available for static content that is not Git-backed and for users with permission to edit the content. You also need permission to upload and deploy bundles.
