Billing

The Billing page in your posit.ai account lets you view your current subscription plan, update your payment information, add credits, manage auto-recharge, and review your billing history. This page explains each of those options.

For how usage is measured and how credits are consumed, see the Credits & usage FAQ.

Your plan and renewal

The Pro plan costs $20/month and renews automatically each month, charging the payment method on file. Each renewal resets your included monthly credits.

To update your payment information or cancel your subscription, click Edit plan or payment and follow the prompts to confirm your changes.

Canceling your subscription works as follows:

  • You keep access to Pro features until the end of your current billing cycle.
  • You are not charged again after that.
  • To avoid the next charge, cancel before your renewal date.

Canceling your subscription is separate from turning off auto-recharge. Turning off auto-recharge does not cancel your subscription, and canceling your subscription does not by itself refund or extend any remaining balance.

How your balance is used

Your account has two kinds of funds, and they are drawn down in a specific order:

  1. Included monthly credits: the credits bundled with your Pro plan. These are consumed first. They reset each billing cycle and do not roll over.
  2. Recharge balance: funds you add through auto-recharge or a one-time purchase, shown in US dollars. Posit AI only draws from this balance after your included monthly credits are used up.

When your plan renews, your included monthly credits reset to the standard allotment. Renewal does not remove or reset your recharge balance. Purchased and auto-recharge funds remain available across billing cycles, subject to their 12-month expiration and an active subscription (see below).

For the full picture of credits, percentages, and the in-session token indicator, see How does the credit system work? in the FAQ.

Auto-recharge

Auto-recharge automatically adds funds to your recharge balance using your saved payment method, so your workflow isn’t interrupted when your included credits run out. Enabling it does not change your subscription cost.

Auto-recharge is disabled by default. To enable it on the Billing page, configure the following:

  • When balance falls below threshold: the balance at which a recharge is triggered.
  • Recharge to target balance: the amount added to your balance when a recharge occurs.
  • Monthly recharge limit (optional): a cap on how much auto-recharge can charge in a single billing month. When set, it must be between $15 and $500. Leave it blank for no limit.

When triggered, Posit AI charges your card on file for the target amount on a recurring basis, whenever your balance falls below the threshold. You can edit these settings or turn auto-recharge on or off at any time. To stop auto-recharge charges, turn it off.

Credits added through auto-recharge are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase. After 12 months, any remaining credits from that purchase expire and Posit removes them from your account. You can only use auto-recharge credits while you have an active Posit AI subscription. If your subscription ends, you can no longer use your recharge balance, even if credits remain.

Add credits

You can make a one-time purchase to add funds to your recharge balance from the Add credits section of the Billing page. One-time purchases must be between $20 and $250.

A one-time purchase is not a prepay option, so you still need an active Posit AI subscription to use your balance. Credits added through a one-time purchase are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase, after which any remaining credits expire.

Refunds

Posit AI is a usage-based service, and Posit generally does not provide refunds. Refunds and billing terms are governed by the Posit AI Agreement.

To avoid unexpected charges, you can:

  • Turn off auto-recharge if you don’t want to be charged beyond your monthly plan.
  • Set a monthly recharge limit to cap auto-recharge spending.
  • Cancel your subscription before your renewal date if you don’t plan to continue.

If you believe you were charged in error, see Troubleshooting billing issues below.

Invoice history

You can view your billing history from the Billing page, including your subscription plan, payment dates, and amounts charged. Your recurring monthly subscription and any auto-recharge top-ups appear as separate line items.

Troubleshooting billing issues

A payment went through but my balance didn’t update. Balance updates can take a few moments to appear. Refresh your home page or sign out and back in. If a completed payment still isn’t reflected after a short wait, contact Posit Support with your invoice number and the charge amount and date.

I see more than one charge, or an unexpected charge. Posit AI bills through two separate mechanisms, your recurring monthly subscription and auto-recharge top-ups, which appear as distinct line items in your invoice history. If auto-recharge is enabled and you use credits quickly, you might see more than one top-up in a single month. To limit this, set a monthly recharge limit or turn off auto-recharge. If you see a charge you can’t account for, contact Posit Support with the invoice number.

Paid subscribers can submit billing and system questions to Posit Support.
