How to apply for tax-exempt status on a shinyapps.io or Posit Cloud account, including what to submit and how initial tax charges are handled.

Overview

Due to a limitation in our billing system, the first invoice after purchasing a plan may include a tax charge, depending on applicable local and state laws. However, Posit can apply tax-exempt status retroactively after your initial purchase.

Solution

After purchasing a plan, submit a request through the Posit Support form and include:

• Your account ID
• A valid tax exemption certificate
• Any relevant supporting documentation

After Posit Support validates your certificate, the team will:

1. Mark your account as tax-exempt for all future charges
2. Process a refund for any sales tax charged on your initial invoice, if applicable
