Posit Professional Drivers#
RStudio is now Posit!
Our professional products have been renamed to Posit Connect, Posit Workbench, Posit Package Manager, Posit Cloud, and Posit Academy so it’s easier for folks to understand that we support more than just R. Please review our Blog post/FAQ to answer commonly asked questions about the rebrand.
Posit makes it easy to connect to your data. Posit Professional Drivers are ODBC data connectors for some of the most popular databases:

Posit Professional Drivers help you:
- Explore your databases using Posit Workbench
- Develop and deploy applications and reports that depend on databases to Posit Connect
- Use R with databases in the cloud or your production environment
Posit offers ODBC drivers for many common data sources at no additional cost to current paying customers. These drivers are commercially licensed from Magnitude Simba and are covered by the Posit Support Program.
Posit professional drivers may only be used with other Posit professional software and may not be used on a standalone basis or with other software.
Use Posit professional drivers with the following products:
- Posit Team bundle
- RStudio Desktop Pro1
- Posit Workbench
- Posit Connect
- Shiny Server Pro
We do not sell or offer Posit Professional Drivers for use with our free and
open-source server or desktop software and our license doesn't permit the
drivers to be used with these products. Additionally, the Posit Professional
Drivers are tested against the R ODBC connection toolchain, namely the
DBI
and odbc
R packages. Currently, Posit Professional Drivers are tested against
the pyodbc
in Python.

You may still find references to “RStudio” in our documentation, and some of those are expected! Several of our open source products like the RStudio IDE will retain their original names, while our professional products’ names have changed to “Posit”, e.g., Posit Connect. To minimize user confusion, past versions of our professional products will go by their old names until they are no longer supported. For more information about our product names, please see the rebranding blog post. ↩
