System Requirements

This page lists detailed information on the supported server and browser platforms, recommended minimal CPU, RAM, disk storage, and other requirements.

It is recommended that you run Posit Connect on a server with a minimum of:

Note

Connect might require more than 4 GB of RAM and 100+ GB of disk space, depending on the resource usage of your content.

Both Server.DataDir and Server.TempDir must be configured to locations that permit execution of binary files. If either one is in a location mounted under the noexec option, deploying and running content on Connect will not work. You can learn more about the noexec option here.

Linux support

Posit Connect is supported on the following Linux distributions:

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.0
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.0
  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP5 / openSUSE 15.5
  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP6 / openSUSE 15.6
  • Ubuntu 20.04 (Focal Fossa)
  • Ubuntu 22.04 (Jammy Jellyfish)
  • Ubuntu 24.04 (Noble Numbat)
  • Debian 12
RHEL 8/9 Alternatives

There are multiple distribution options, such as Rocky Linux and AlmaLinux, which state they are 1:1 binary compatible with RHEL 8/9. These distributions can be used as long as they stay 1:1 binary compatible with RHEL 8/9. CentOS Stream is not a 1:1 binary compatible distribution and not supported by Posit.

Within each version of a Linux distribution, we support the latest patch release or “service pack.” The Posit Platform Support page explains the support period for each Linux distribution.

We currently only offer installers for the x86-64 architecture and require root privileges both to install and run Connect.

Runtime support

Posit Connect is supported with the following runtimes:

  • R versions 3.1.0 and higher
  • Python 3 versions 3.8.0 and higher
  • Quarto
  • TensorFlow Serving

  • Chrome
  • Firefox
